日笠さんは東京を拠点に活動するアーティスト。これまでに主にイラストレーションを中心に活動されてきました。温かい冬のBIOMEでの小川かなこさんの個展に、「やぁ！」という雰囲気でやってこられた日笠さん。写真から抜け出したようにそのままで、そしてまるで初めてではない雰囲気に、あぁ、展覧会に出展いただけてありがたい、嬉しいと心底思いました。
日笠さんの年末年始エピソードをぜひご一読いただきたいのですが、彼は絵を描く以前は料理人という経歴の持ち主。突飛に感じないのは、料理を本格的にされる方にアートに通じるものを常々感じているからでしょうか。

Higasa is an artist based in Tokyo. Up to this point, he has primarily focused on illustration. Arriving at Kanako Ogawa’s solo exhibition in the warm winter setting of BIOME with an air of casual familiarity, he greeted the space with a sense of “Hey!”—as if he had stepped right out of a photograph, unchanged, and as if we had met before. In that moment, I felt a profound sense of gratitude and joy that he was able to exhibit his work in this show.
I highly encourage you to read Higasa’s reflections on his experiences over the New Year period. Before pursuing painting, he had a background as a chef. Perhaps this does not seem surprising, as I have always felt a deep connection between the discipline of culinary arts and visual art.
This particular piece, executed in acrylic paint, achieves a striking clarity. While evoking a sense of nostalgia, it also conveys the very essence of Higasa’s creative spirit.
A work of strong visual impact in itself, it has been deliberately positioned on a single pillar to heighten its presence.
