Nakashima specializes in wood engraving, a form of woodblock printing.
Wood engraving is a form of printmaking that uses end-grain blocks, which are cross-sectioned pieces of wood with a hard surface, as printing plates.
The hardness of the material allows for intricate details, resulting in highly precise works. As mentioned in the episode, Nakashima visited BIOME before stopping by Ashiya to see their grandmother-in-law. They had traveled by ship and were deeply impressed by its convenience and comfort. Their open-minded curiosity made for an engaging and lively conversation.
It is astonishing that such beautifully framed works are available at this price. Nakashima’s pieces often feature small animals, and their keen observational skills are evident in their ability to capture everyday scenes with a touch of humor.
During their visit, they attentively explored the exhibited works, reflecting their warm personality. These pieces are highly recommended for printmaking enthusiasts and animal lovers alike.
