ジャミラはアリゾナ出身ですが、今は岡山県倉敷市の戸建てに住む日本暮らしを楽しんでいます。そして、BIOMEへは自ら持参で作品を持ち込んでくれました。
ジャミラのプロフィール写真はショートヘアにスーツのようなスタイルでかしこまっていたせいか大人びて見えましたが、実際「ハーイ！ジャミラよ」とやってきた時は、ふわっとした素敵なロングカーリーヘアがとてもチャーミング。おまけに彼女は、自分の作品をビッタリとした両面テープで完全防備した小さなコンテナで運んできました。「そぉーっとね、とても繊細なの」と開梱してくれたのです。確かに、繊細。
そして、英語と日本語を交えたビジネスコミュニケーションを済ませた後、これからどうするのか聞いた質問に、「私の今日の二番目の目的は、神戸で美味しいうどんか寿司を食べること、どこか知らない？」とにっこり。すっかり元気をジャミラからもらいました。
Jamila is originally from Arizona but now enjoys life in Japan, living in a house in Kurashiki, Okayama. She personally brought her artwork to BIOME, hand-delivering it with care.
Her profile photo, with short hair and a suit-like outfit, gave off a polished, mature impression. But when she arrived with a cheerful “Hi! I’m Jamila,” she had gorgeous, flowing curly hair that was effortlessly charming.
She also carried her pieces in a small, well-secured container, sealed tightly with double-sided tape. “Careful, they’re very delicate,” she said as she carefully unpacked them—and indeed, they were.
After a mix of English and Japanese business talk, I asked about her plans for the day. She smiled and said, “My second goal today is to find some delicious udon or sushi in Kobe. Any recommendations?” Her energy was infectious—I left feeling completely uplifted.
